Getting Involved

There are many ways for residents to get involved with hall government! All of the opportunities listed below are great ways to gain leadership and teamwork experience while making the residence halls a great place to live!

RHA Executive Board

The RHA Executive Board consists of ten student members and each position focuses on different subject matter from leading the organization to social justice and community empowerment to coordinating large-scale campus programs. You can also find out how to apply for any current opening or just let us know your interest through our Hall Government Interest Form. Every year, you can run for a position for the next academic year at rha.unl.edu/fallelections or email us at unlrha@gmail.com, too.

The National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) also appoints one representative to serve on the RHA Executive Board.

RHA Senators

Each residence hall/complex has at least one representative that serves on the RHA Senate, called Senators. The number of representatives from each residence hall/complex is based on population of the area.

The role of these Senators is to attend the weekly RHA Senate meetings (Tuesdays at 7PM) and be the voice of their area's residents. The Senators vote on legislation, assist with RHA programs and events, bring ideas for initiatives and hall improvements, and are responsible for communication between their residence hall/complex and the RHA Senate. Senators are also required to be a part of at least one committee in RHA.

Anyone can join as an RHA Senator and are typically elected during the fall semester within the first two weeks by electronic ballot. More information on fall elections can be found at rha.unl.edu/fallelections. During the semester, individuals may submit interest to RHA or their Programming Board/Residence Director. If you are interested in an RHA Senator position, please fill out the Hall Government Interest Form.

Programming Boards

Every residence hall/complex has a Programming Board that residents can be a part of! The Programming Boards are open to any resident living in the residence hall/complex. These Programming Boards plan engaging events, coordinate initiatives and improvements for their residence hall/complex, and help build individual leadership skills.

Previously, Programming Boards have planned NCAA Watch Parties, educated residents on safe drinking habits, celebrated a variety of holidays throughout the year, and brought in hall improvements like billiards tables, massage chairs, front desk equipment, rentable video game consoles, and improved residence hall safety.

If you're interested in joining your residence hall/complex Programming Board, complete the Hall Government Interest Form.

RHA Committees

Any resident of the halls can be a member of an RHA committee! Committee meeting times are worked out with the members of the committee during the year, so times are flexible!

More information on the different committees and how to apply can be found at rha.unl.edu/committees. If you're interested in joining or have any questions, send an email directly to RHA at unlrha@gmail.com.
